Lightbearer's Library
My main channel (Hack Music Theory) has over 250K subscribers and 10 million views. I've been a full-time YouTuber since 2017 and launched this personal channel (Lightbearer's Library) in 2025, where I'm making video versions of my journal entries. Some of my favourite topics to talk about are practical philosophy, positive psychology, and personalty type (I'm an INFP). But honestly, my journals contain counter-cultural thoughts about everything, so expect the unexpected! I also share practical ways I'm improving my mental health, with the hope that you might find them useful too. I deleted all my social media accounts over 10 years ago, so I offer a loving perspective that's free from the divisive language commonly found in feeds nowadays. If this sounds like your cup of tea, then I warmly welcome you into the Lightbearer's Library. Stay for a while, and please remember to subscribe. XOXO, Kate Harmony :)
Lightbearer's Library
Waiting to be ready is self-sabotage
In this journal entry, we tackle the core of self-sabotage: the dangerous, yet common, belief that we are not quite ready yet to pursue our deep purpose. This need for perfection and tendency toward procrastination is an act of "wrecking" our own future, but the solution is not more planning—it's imperfect action.
We explore why we must learn to ACT WRONG and simply take a tiny, first step, using the power of habit and the wisdom of following your "inner voice." I share my own story of building the Lightbearer's Library one uncertain step at a time, guided by that voice, which is like a small candle in the darkness.
Join me to break the habit of waiting and replace it with the habit of daily action, moving toward a life of flourishing and freedom.
Wishing you many blessings,
Kate

00:00 - hello dear soul and welcome to the Lightbearer's Library. My name is Kate Harmony. In today's journal entry, I want to ask us the question of what if the only thing standing between us and the life that we truly desire is the belief that we're not ready yet?
00:17 - Here's the thing: that is an act of self-sabotage. Now, let's look at the definition of self-sabotage. Self-sabotage is defined as the act or habit of behaving in a way that interferes directly with our own goals, well-being, relationships, etc.
00:40 - So, for instance, comfort eating, procrastination, getting angry with the people that you love, whatever that might be. And I love that looking at the etymology—this is just a side note—comes from the French word sabotur which means to bungle or wreck. You know, to just wreck things. So we're wrecking our lives, you know, we're wrecking our future by not taking action today. We're waiting.
01:10 - We're waiting for some kind of sign that we're ready, you know. And I think, you know, we talked in yesterday's journal entry about finding that voice within, that inner voice within, that that knows what it is that we want to to to to start. It has a feeling. There's a there's a something in there that says, "Oh, I'd really like to start writing that book," or, "I'd really like to, you know, learn how to do this," "You know, do crochet," "I'd really like to go for a hike on that that mountain pass that I've heard about," you know, whatever it might be.
01:55 - And, you know, we kind of come up with all these reasons why it is that we're not quite ready. You know, "I don't have the tools or the clothes," "I don't have the whatever." We come up with all these excuses of why we're why we're not ready. And you know, we might think that our idea isn't isn't quite perfect enough. We're not sure what exactly what what kind of book we might want to write, what kind of story we might want to write. And and so we're like, "Well, you know, okay, I don't I don't know."
02:34 - You know, but here's the thing: we will we will never be ready, or we'll never have quite the right idea. And we need to, you know, act wrong. We need to to just start acting. It might just be taking action. It might not be the right thing to do, but it it it starts us moving in in the right direction towards our our inner voice.
03:06 - And, you know, I think that's imperative to our feeling aliveness is is action and movement. We look around, and life is the life around us is is moving. Well, maybe not—it's winter here, so it's quite still outside—but you know, there's there's there's always people walking, and there's there's action and and and so that's that's life.
03:28 - And, you know, today is my 60th journal entry on the Lightbearer's Library. It's been about 3 months, and I just started acting. I was like, "I don't know if this is the right idea." All I had was this this inner voice that said Lightbearer's Library. When I came up with those two words together, it was, you know, something in me had goosebumps and chills, and I started crying. And it was like, "Okay, I need to do something with it. I don't know what, but I'm just going to start journaling out loud about what's happening in my life and see where see where it takes me."
04:06 - And, you know, it's still not clear exactly where where I'm going, but every day that passes, I feel a gathering of of energy. I feel more confident in my future and where I'm going. And so, um, I think it reminds me of like, you know, this image came to me when I was thinking about this, or writing about this, was that that we have this this small little candle that we're holding out in front of us, and we can only see kind of a little bit around us as we're as we're as we're looking towards the future. And and that's it. We don't know where it's going. We can't know what the future holds, you know?
04:50 - So it's it's it's just we need to hold the light out of our inner voice, the the thing that we know is true for us, and kind of just walk with this candle held out in front of us. It reminds me of, you know, I think it's book number seven in Harry Potter. Ron's got his Deluminator that Dumbledore gave him. And, you know, he had left Harry and Hermione and couldn't find his way back to them. And so he uses this little light, and there's like the little voice of Hermione, you know, that that guides him back to them. And that's exactly what it is that I'm thinking. And we use that little little inner light, that little inner voice, and we just follow it step by step and and and see where it takes us. You know, it's a it's an exciting adventure.
05:44 - So the thing is is that we need to take action and build the habit of action every single day. So if you want to write a book, it's, you know, writing, opening whatever you're writing on and even if it's just one sentence every day, start with one sentence and then get that into a habit over a couple of weeks or whatever. And then it's like, "Okay, that's feeling that's feeling good," and then write two sentences, or whatever. It's just start as small as you need to to just build the habit of of taking action. And, you know, then we'll be you know going against the self-sabotage, right? We'll be actually building habits of of flourishing, building habits that are, you know, that help us move towards our goals and our well-being and and healthier relationships. So instead of self-sabotage, it'll be the opposite, you know, we'll be we'll be working towards flourishing.
06:44 - So, you know, if if the truth is that waiting is, you know, and procrastinating maybe, and waiting for the perfect thing to happen, if that's what is self-sabotage, then the solution obviously is to break that habit. And we need to, you know, it's it's not it's not going to be perfect. Nothing ever is, you know, and that's just that's just life. And but it, you know, we we just keep moving closer to that inner voice, and we keep moving forward.
07:20 - And I think that's it. That's it, one step. So before you click away, before you leave here, what is that one thing that you're going to do today to prove to yourself that you can take action on on that inner voice that's telling you, you know, to to do whatever? And it's like, you know, cuz that's what we we need to prove to ourselves that we can take action. And, you know, I would love for you to leave that action in the comments. You know, it's like, here we are all together. We're taking imperfect imperfect actions together. So share with me. I would love to I would love to hear, and and we can kind of cheer each other on in this. So, anyway, that's that's my thoughts for today. I'm wishing you many many blessings. Signing off for now, xoxo, Kate.
